Andrew Federal Credit Union Branch will be under construction May 7 to June 25. The branch will temporarily relocate during this time to Building 3, Class Room A. US Customs office on GK
The US Customs office on GK that issues temporary fuel rations will close May 6 at 1 p.m. Other all-day closure dates include April 30; May 13, 14 and 24; and June 3 and 4.

We only heard one report, but…
Know this: One person was cited by Dutch Police for driving and talking on a mobile phone. The fine: €166. It’s the law in the Netherlands (and many other nations in the world). If you need to talk on a mobile phone, please pull over and stop. Doing so can save you and/or someone else serious harm or injury. If you happen to be driving a government vehicle, be reminded that using a mobile phone while driving is strictly forbidden.
We’ve had more than one incident, so…
Wear your seatbelt! In the past few weeks, at least eight persons driving on USAG Schinnen were cited for not wearing a seatbelt, which results in a 7-day suspension of driving privileges on the base. There have also been at least 20 speeding violations (The speed limit everywhere on USAG Schinnen is 30 kilometers per hour). USAG Schinnen is only 655 meters by 200 meters – there’s no need to rush!
Straatspeeldag in Brunssum June 2
The Dutch observance of Straatspeeldag will be held in Brunssum June 2. This is an annual event when children are allowed to play in the streets. One of five streets that will be blocked June 2, 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., is Frans Halsstraat, Brunssum, in the vicinity of AFNORTH International School. All drivers are graciously asked to park their vehicles elsewhere on this day to avoid annoyances, damage to vehicles and to enable the true spirit of Straatspeeldag to be enjoyed. Thanks!

Operation Change Out
Governments have passed measures to phase out incandescent light bulbs to encourage the use of energy efficient alternatives like compact fluorescent lamps and LED lamps. Brazil and Venezuela phased them out in 2005. Australia, Ireland and Switzerland in 2009. Argentina, Italy, Russia and the United Kingdom will begin in 2011; Canada and the European Union in 2012; and the U.S. between 2012 and 2014. USAG Schinnen is starting now. You’ll find bins placed throughout USAG Schinnen to dump your old incandescent light bulbs. If you live in government leased quarters, you’ll get new energy efficient light bulbs for free. If you don’t, you’re encouraged to make the change – you’ll see the savings in your €€electricity bill€€! DA/Official Photo Appointments – Online!
Soldiers, Civilian, and all other authorized users* of the Training Support Centers (TSC) in Europe must schedule their official photography online, in accordance with a Department of the Army directive. *Authorized users are generally all those with a CAC Card. Appointments made on-line are centralized at the TSC Benelux’s main office in Belgium and forwarded to the TSC on USAG Schinnen for customers who will use the USAG Schinnen TSC studio. To make appointments and receive official photography support, all authorized users must open an account at http://www.vios.army.mil. Persons who need assistance can contact the TSC for assistance setting up their account on VIOS.
Customers who want to use the TSC Photography Studio located at USAG Schinnen, Bldg 38, must make their appointment on line at http://www.vios.army.mil to enable the appointments to be centralized at the main TSC Benelux’s office in Belgium. Customers who do not possess a CAC Card may use the TSC at USAG Schinnen by contacting the TSC Benelux’s Visual Information Staff located at the Chievres Office at DSN: 361-5209/5273 or Comm:+32(0)6827-5201/5273. To confirm an appointment before you travel to the TSC Benelux’s Schinnen Office, you may contact the studio on USAG Schinnen by calling DSN: 360-7426/7293 or Comm: +31(0)46-443-7293.

You may have heard of the “Bite of” events in the states where restaurants show off a bit to show the best food in a region. Here, the Preuvenemint is just that – like a “Bite of Maastricht,” for four days some of the best restaurants in the city set up tents in the Vrithof selling, not carnival food, but absolutely delicious gourmet fare. Couple that with a continual flow of band after band from the grandstand and you have yourself an event.
Parking/Transportation: Parking in Maastricht can be difficult anyway, but being that this event is held at the Vrijtof, if you want to park there, I recommend getting there early and still having a backup plan. If you aren’t going to stay until 0200, this would be a perfect time to take the train from Sittard, Schinnen, or Herleen. Just make sure you know when the last train returns and pay attention to the time! (P.S. The ticket office at the Sittard train station closes at 1600)
