Living in GK (and beyond)

A new little button.

Once upon a time (summer of 2007), I started this thing with a single post.  I don’t even remember what that post was because I backdated a few things and it’s all a jumble, but it still is amazing to me how far this has come.

It began as my way of bringing people together, providing information that I thought should have been easier to find, and to counter an attitude of non-sharing that I found among people then – that “I discovered something really cool, but won’t tell you because then it won’t be special anymore” attitude.

It’s grown so much and I really have you all to thank for that.  Thank you for the comments, questions, and recommendations.  Thank you for letting me know if a link doesn’t work or if a restaurant has closed or moved.   Your input tells me that this thing is still valid and still worth putting my time into.

Anyway.  The button.

I began with the conviction that you should not have to log in or give any information to read what is here.  I don’t need to know your DEROS or your name.  Information should be available, unintrusive, and free.  And this blog IS free and will continue to be free.

The idea of money has been an ethical dilemma for me for a while simply because of the above convictions, but it has taken hours and days and weeks and months of my time and I have begun to pay for little upgrades like photo hosting space and template programs so that I have the ability to improve it and make it better.

This isn’t my job.  I’m just a stay at home mother of four who started this thing with a post and am still shocked and amazed (yes, and a little bit proud) of its growth.  It’s always been my mostly midnight quiet time activity.

So, now I have a button kind of hiding almost at the bottom of the right hand column.  It’s a donation button with Paypal.  Don’t be offended by it.  It’s just there.  And if you use this blog a lot and if it’s been really helpful to you and if you think it’s worth a buck or two, then click.  If you don’t, then don’t.  No pressure.  I’ll keep on adding information and photos anyway because at the end of the day, this really is kind of fun and very personally rewarding.

Thank you all for reading, commenting, contributing, and making the GK experience a good one.  You are all a part of a wonderful community.
