The American Women of Geilenkirchen organization has held the Foggy Field Bazaar for 18 years. Operating as a support and social organization within the NATO Air Base and surrounding community, AWGK gives back to the local military and base-support community by providing extensive philanthropic resources. The primary source of philanthropic funds comes from monies raised at this highly-anticipated annual event.

E-3A Component 20th International Children’s Festival
Saturday, 26 April 2008
1300-1800
At the Base Theater just inside the front gate.

Activities this year: Airfield train ride, clowns and magicians, face painting, f-16 cockpit, cotton candy and popcorn, aircraft static display, dance performances, drawing contest, children’s choir, inflatable toys and slides, ballet and tae kwon do shows, dog show, food ,drinks and desserts, and much more.

The International Children’s Festival is a wonderful event put on each year by the Turkish NSU at the Geilenkirchen Air Base. There is always a lot of free food – the normal carnival stuff… hamburgers and hotdogs, cotton candy and popcorn. The kids will enjoy the big inflatable slides and trampolines, face painting, and other activities. Inside the theater there are dance performances by many local groups. Outside afterwards, there is a beautiful display of Turkish folk dancing. The costumes are phenomenal. This is always the highlight for us.

When Extensions are not Enough…

When living, working, and shopping on three different bases in two different countries, you’d think that folks here would realize that we don’t all have those city codes memorized. Or at least I don’t. I got a flyer for an event happening at Brunssum. Just call ext. xxxx for more information. Uh, no. Doesn’t work. So, here’s the cheat sheet… if you’re calling from the same country, don’t bother with the first 4 digits.

The links will give you phone numbers and hours for many services offered at all three bases. The GK link even provides numbers for lodging down in Garmisch.

GK: (http://www.usagschinnen.eur.army.mil/sites/phone/PhoneGermany.asp)

0049-(0)2451-63 + the 4 digit extension for most offices on base.
0049-(0)2451-90-8030 gets the elementary school
0049-(0)2451-99 + the 4 digit extension for med group numbers

Brunssum :( http://www.usagschinnen.eur.army.mil/sites/phone/PhoneNetherlands.asp)

0031 – (0) 45 526 + the 4 digit extension for most offices on base.

The base operator: +31 (0)45 526 2222

Schinnen: (http://www.usagschinnen.eur.army.mil/sites/phone/PhoneNetherlands.asp)

0031- (0)46-443 + the 4 digit extension for most offices on base.
