“Just wanted to recommend this store I found in Aachen. It’s the German version of Hobby Lobby, well a small version, but still great. Great for those who are handy… and just a few shops down from BabyOne.”

“…it is great and really convenient to the tri-border area.
“My daughter celebrated her 10th birthday at Yolande’s Hobbyhok in Binglerade, NL. It was such a great time. And Yolande is awesome and speaks wonderful English (on the phone, in person and via email). You can choose from several different craft activities.. A few weeks ago, my oldest daughter went there with her youth group, and the each hand painted a coffee cup. At Halle’s birthday, the girls did a little scrapbook book. It was a lot of fun, easy to get to and 8.5 euro per person. Our group was very small so it was very reasonable. And the girls loved it!”

A fantastic store in Aachen, the staff are helpful, speak a little English, and the store isn’t too far from the historic center, so you can plan your art supply shopping into the rest of your day very easily.

Sewing/Quilting/Cross Stitch Shop

Number one question from crafters of all kinds upon arriving here, “Where’s my Hobby Lobby?” Or, “Where can I go to get all the great things I used and NEED for my craft.” There may not be a chain of superstores, but you CAN find what you need MOST of the time if you just look around a bit. And, when all else fails, you can order online.

NL Side:

  • De Oliemolen
    Oliemolenstraat 32
    Heerlen, NL
    T: 0031 45 571 2949

“They are a Pfatt sewing machine shop, upstairs carry beautiful quilting fabric, threads, buttons, ribbons, etc…and I think cross stitch supplies. Its a beautiful old building, actually has guest houses as well. You pull into parking lot, walk under arch and its the first door on left for that shop. They speak English, you could call first to see if they have what you need.”

  • Amstenrade – There is a reader recommended fabric store in Amstenrade, but I don’t know the name or address. Still… if you’re nearby, look for a window with fabric in it and if you find it, please pass along the info!
  • Singer Shop in Sittard: Located on one corner of the large market square directly across from the V&D. This tiny shop has a lot of things stuffed in there, so it’s worth a look. Threads, ribbons, buttons, patches, yarn, trim, sewing machines, beads, etc… All the little notions that you need.

DE Side:

  • The Log Cabin
    Im Langental 56
    Hillensberg 52538
    Web: http://www.thelogcabin.de/DE/index.html
    Open: Mon-Wed 1000-1700; Fri 1400-2100; Sat 1100-1700
    Closed: Thurs and Sun

    • I didn’t ever think that I’d see Debbie Mumm in Germany, but it’s here and it’s close! If you love to sew or quilt, this needs to be your next stop!
