Local Area Veterinarians (Tierarzt)

All Listings are for Reader Recommended Vets
NOTE: Veterinarian in German is “Tierarzt,” so if you are looking in the phone book or even doing an internet search, that is the word to use. In Dutch, use “Dieren Clinic.” I did a simple Yahoo search for “Tierarzt geilenkirchen” and found quite a long list just in that area.
Germany

Dr. Heinz Breickmann, Tierarzt (Veterinarian)
Pastor-Fischenich-Str. 4
52538 Gangelt
Nordrhein-Westfalen
Tel: (02454) 2282
Open: M-Sat 10-12; MTThF 4-6:30 (closed on Wed evenings)

This is the second vet that I’ve tried here. I showed up this morning (a Monday) at 0955 and was the second person there. The staff were very friendly and kept track of the patients, so they came and called our names when it was time. The office is large and spacious and everyone was friendly. Dr. Breickmann and his staff handled my aging cat very well. They were gentle and talked to her. He was quick, explained what he was thinking well and clearly, and treated my cat immediately. The visit cost 22 Euros and included a dose of antibiotics that they gave her there. We left 30 minutes after arriving. A successful trip.

Dr. Stefanie Teeuwen

A popular clinic located in the front of a huge old farm complex, do show up early. The door may still be locked, but they will let you in. It is first come, first served. I showed up 5 minutes before they opened and had to wait an hour to be seen. Very nice staff and ok English skills, Dr. Teeuwen breeds dogs and has horses, so those are her loves and though she sees all pets, I think she’s better with dogs than cats. Very efficient and knows what she’s doing. 11 Euros to trim a cat’s claw that had grown into her foot.

“It is in Spaanshuisken which is in the Netherlands, but it is really one street attached to Saeffelen. A map (plattegrond) is on the homepage. It is in Dutch only, but the owner, Maurice (a bit of a rocker looking dude), speaks some English. He gets many U.S. and Canadian customers and so far I haven’t heard any complaints. Most important of all he is good with
animals and affordable (8 Euros a night). He also takes small animals like rabbits, hamsters, rats, and birds for 1 Euro a night.”

“They are really wonderful to the pets there. No kennel cough or tics and fleas when I picked her up. I was very happy with them and will use them again.”

LIHO even let me see the facility and then go back later to ‘introduce’ my dogs to it before we actually left them. They are really nice.”

“I loved that they had the play alone/play with others options for the
dogs. They have several fenced in areas (including ones with high fencing for my
little jumpers!) so they can play by themselves if necessary.

“And if you don’t have a vet yet, LIHO can recommend one as well. I used them and were really pleased with their service. I know it’s been said before but LIHO will be the only kennel I’ll use from now on!”

NOT recommended by readers…

Dierenhotel Abdissenbosch in Landgraaf, The Netherlands

“Woman at the counter was completely rude… She yelled at me… the wound on one of my dogs foot got worse – and that they put ‘tea tree oil’ on it everyday… I am not confident that my dogs were cared for appropriately – I will not take my dogs there again and I will not recommend it to anyone.” (complete complaint listed in comments to this post)
